Common questions

Staying at Banyan Tree

01 What's special about Banyan Tree Tengchong's hot springs?

Every villa has a private in-villa hot-spring tub fed by the same volcanic source that made Tengchong famous — you soak on your own schedule, in silence, in mineral-rich water at 38–42°C. The resort also has a public thermal complex with multiple mineral pools. The Mayu Valley has been a geothermal site for centuries; Banyan Tree is the first international brand to build here.

02 When is the best time to stay at Banyan Tree Tengchong?

October to early December for crisp dry days and the cleanest Gaoligong views. March to May for rhododendron displays in the Gaoligong foothills — the resort can arrange guided hikes. Avoid June to August (monsoon). Winter is mild and the hot-spring tubs are at their most atmospheric; nights rarely drop below 5°C in the valley.

03 What else is there to do in Tengchong beyond the resort?

The 600-year-old Heshun Ancient Town (20 min drive) for Qing-era merchant houses and the 1928 Heshun Library. The Rehai hot-spring park for a more public thermal experience. Gaoligong Mountain hikes — from gentle forest walks to the 1,600m biodiversity trail. We typically pair 3 nights at Banyan Tree with 1–2 nights at Bolian Tengchong for a 5-day volcanic-valley circuit.
