Frequently asked questions
Everything first-time travellers usually want to know before we start planning — from visas and hotels to sickness, solo travel, and our booking process. Still unsure? Ask us directly.
01 How is Boutique China different?
We specialise in ultra-personalised, high-end journeys that deliberately bypass mass tourism. Our itineraries provide privileged access to lesser-known destinations and private stays with trusted international brands such as Aman and Banyan Tree, as well as exceptional boutique properties including Hylla and VipaXana—selected for their architectural integrity, intimacy, and sense of place.
02 Where can we meet to plan my trip?
We operate as a Mobile Luxury Consultancy to serve clients Australia-wide. We bring our expertise to you—whether via a private video conference or meeting for a coffee at a local cafe to suit your schedule.
03 Do Australians need a visa for China in 2026?
No. Australian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free entry for up to 30 days. For longer stays, our team provides full concierge support for your application.
04 What is your standard for hotels?
We partner exclusively with independent, owner-operated properties distinguished by architectural significance and a genuine sense of character. We favour what we consider “living museums” over generic international hotel chains.
05 Can I customise an itinerary?
Always. Every journey on our site is a "canvas." Because we work directly with local partners, we can adjust every detail—from the pace of travel to private architecture or tea-master sessions.
06 Do you serve international clients and offer non-English speaking guides?
Yes. While based in Melbourne, we serve a global clientele. To ensure a seamless experience, we provide professional guides fluent in French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. Furthermore, citizens of France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal currently enjoy 30-day visa-free entry to China until 31 December 2026.
07 How do I navigate if I don’t speak Mandarin?
You will be accompanied by professional, fluent English-speaking local guides. They act as "cultural bridges," granting you access to people and places hidden from the average traveller.
08 Are your journeys suitable for solo travellers or families?
Yes. We curate specific "soft-adventure" itineraries for families and secure, immersive paths for solo travellers, balancing deep exploration with high-altitude luxury.
09 What are your typical group sizes?
We specialise in private journeys. Whether you are a couple, a family, or a small group of friends, the itinerary moves at your pace, not a bus schedule.
10 How is my privacy and safety managed?
Discretion is a hallmark of our service. We use vetted private transfers and provide 24/7 support throughout your entire journey.
11 What happens if I get sick while in China?
You are never alone. For minor concerns, your private guide will immediately coordinate with reputable local pharmacies or premium hotel-level medical support. In the event of something more serious, our team provides 24/7 assistance to secure priority access to international-standard hospitals or private VIP wards.
12 What is the first step?
It begins with a conversation. We take the time to uncover not just where you want to go, but how you want to feel when you arrive. Contact us to schedule your discovery call.
