Suxiangu (宿仙谷, 'Lodge of the Immortal Valley') is a Relais & Châteaux property hidden deep inside UNESCO-listed Qingcheng Mountain — 90 minutes from Chengdu and adjacent to a working giant-panda habitat. The architecture leans into the cultural setting: Qingcheng is one of the four sacred Daoist mountains of China, and the lodge's wellness, tea, and dining rooms are all structured around Daoist 'qi' principles. Rooms face forested ridge or panda-sanctuary, and guest experiences include Daoist meditation sessions, tea rituals, and panda-keeper encounters. Panda base as the closest neighbour. Need we say more.
Highlights
- Relais & Châteaux One of only a handful of Relais & Châteaux properties in inland China, and the only one in Sichuan.
- UNESCO Qingcheng Mountain Deep inside the UNESCO-listed sacred Daoist mountain — forested, misted, spiritually weighted.
- Panda base as neighbour A working giant-panda conservation habitat is the closest neighbouring property — guest encounters and keeper walks by arrangement.
- Daoist immersion Meditation, calligraphy, and tea rituals built around the mountain's Daoist tradition — not a decorative add-on.
- 90 minutes from Chengdu Close enough to pair with a Chengdu city stay at The Temple House; remote enough to feel like a different planet.
Inside Suxiangu

Staying at Suxiangu
01 What makes Qingcheng Mountain special?
Qingcheng is one of the four sacred Daoist mountains of China — continuously inhabited by Daoist monks since the Han Dynasty, with Tianshi Cave as one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Chinese religious history. The mountain is also UNESCO-listed (with Dujiangyan). Suxiangu sits deep in the forested valley between monasteries; guests can walk to active Daoist sites in the early morning before day-trippers arrive.
02 How does the panda neighbour factor in?
The resort sits adjacent to a working giant-panda habitat — not the commercial Chengdu Research Base, but a quieter breeding facility used by researchers. Early-morning private visits can be arranged through the lodge — much smaller groups, more natural panda behaviour, actual conservation conversations with the keepers. Best booked as part of a 2-night stay, with a schedule that gets you there at feeding time.
03 How does Suxiangu fit into a Sichuan itinerary?
Two common patterns. Either as the first 2 nights of a Sichuan trip — jet-lag recovery, acclimatisation, and a gentler introduction to Chinese wellness before heading to Daocheng Yading or Jiuzhai Valley. Or as the last 2 nights — a slow wind-down after high-altitude mountain travel. Either way, it's a 90-minute drive to Chengdu airport.
