Chongqing

Neon Peaks, Ancient Gorges

4-5 days

neon peaks ancient gorges

Chongqing is China’s "Mountain City," a vertical 8D metropolis where futuristic monorails glide through apartment blocks and ancient stilt houses cling to river cliffs. While Chengdu is laid-back, Chongqing is high-octane—defined by its bold "old-pot" flavors, neon-lit cyberpunk nights, and the dramatic karst landscapes of Wulong and the Three Gorges.

Common questions

Planning your Chongqing trip

01 When is the best time to visit Chongqing?

October to early December and March to early May. Avoid the summer 'Furnace of China' (mid-June to late August) when temperatures hit 40°C with brutal humidity. Winter is mild and rarely below 8°C, and the city's neon spectacle actually looks best on cool misty nights. November brings the clearest river-gorge views.

02 How many days do I need in Chongqing?

Three to five days. One for Jiefangbei CBD, Hongya Dong, and the Liangjiang Two Rivers night cruise; one for the Dazu Rock Carvings (UNESCO, 2 hours away); one for the Ciqikou ancient town and a proper old-pot hot pot dinner; two more if you're adding a Three Gorges river cruise downriver to Yichang. We usually pair Chongqing with a Yangtze cruise or with Chengdu as a Sichuan-Chongqing duo.

03 How does Chongqing pair with other destinations?

Three common routes. One: fly in to Chongqing, cruise the Yangtze 4 days downriver to Yichang, fly home. Two: fast-train from Chengdu (1h 10) for a Sichuan-Chongqing food pairing. Three: fly on to Zhangjiajie or Guilin for karst landscapes after the city. Each of these we build as private itineraries.
