Evergreen 'Spring City'
Kunming, the "Spring City," offers pleasant weather most of the year and an easy pace for exploring nature and culture.

One to two days. Most guests use it as a 24-hour stopover: arrive from overseas, catch dinner in Yunnan's capital, sleep off jet-lag, then fly or drive onward to Dali or Lijiang. Add a second day for the UNESCO Stone Forest (1.5h drive) or a Dianchi Lake afternoon. In January and February, stay an extra day for the Siberian seagulls at Cuihu Park — a winter Yunnan spectacle.
Rarely. Kunming works as Yunnan's logistical hub — the airport connects to everywhere else in the province — but it's a big modern city without the scenic density of Dali or Lijiang. We recommend building it in as transit rather than a destination. Exception: tea culture travellers who want to visit the Kunming tea auction houses before heading to Jingmai.
Any time — Kunming is called the Spring City for a reason. Annual average around 15°C, mild winters (rarely below 5°C), warm but not humid summers (rarely above 28°C). The exception is mid-June to mid-August when afternoon thunderstorms are common. January–February brings the Red-billed Gull migration from Siberia — a Kunming-specific bucket-list moment.
