Travel by theme
Short, focused trips built around one thing worth travelling for — a wine region, a wall, a railway, a kitchen, a lake above the treeline. Small groups of two to eight, departing on the day you choose.

Wine tasting
China's highest vineyards grow on the terraces of the Jinsha and Lancang rivers in northwest Yunnan, where French missionaries planted the first vines a century ago and a new generation of winemakers is planting again.
The Shangri-La Wine Journey — seven days, eight wineries, with a wine team leader, departing any day from 8 to 30 October 2027 for four to eight guests — is being finished now. Register your interest below and we will send it to you first.

Wild Great Wall hikes
North-east of Beijing, beyond the day-trip range, the original Ming wall climbs from Gubeikou over Jinshanling to Simatai — towers open to the sky, steps worn to rubble, almost nobody up there.

Off-the-beaten-track city tours
Short trips out of the cities we know best, to the places their own residents go at the weekend — a slow train, an old railway, a lake, the right lunch.

Yunnan culinary journeys
Yunnan eats differently from the rest of China — wild mushrooms, Pu'er tea, Bai and Dai and Tibetan kitchens, markets at every altitude — and we are building journeys around the people who cook it.
The first culinary departures are being built now. Register your interest below and we will tell you when they are ready.

Hikes under three days
Alpine lakes, sacred valleys and a glacier or two, each walked with a local guide and a bed at the end of the day — the Shangri-La hikes first, with more short walks on the way.
More short hikes are being added. These four, around Shangri-La, are ready to book as part of a private journey.

Abujicuo Lake Hike
A single day above Shangri-La to the turquoise alpine lake of Abujicuo (阿布吉措) at 4,220 m — prayer flags strung above glacial water, a rocky moraine summit, and one of the highest tarns you can reach on foot in northwest Yunnan without a multi-day trek.

Haba Black Sea High-Altitude Trek
2D1N high-altitude trek to Black Sea — the glacial tarn at 4,100 m on the slopes of Haba Snow Mountain in northwest Yunnan. Across Tiger Leaping Gorge from Jade Dragon, ringed by yak pasture, with one of the cleanest sunrise viewpoints in the region.

Niru Valley Hike
Three days in Niru (尼汝) — the hidden alpine valley above Shangri-La that hardly any international travellers reach. Rainbow waterfall, wildflower meadows in late summer, conifer forest trails and Tibetan herder settlements. The lower-altitude, gentler alternative to Yubeng.

Yubeng Trek
Three days into Yubeng (雨崩) — the remote Tibetan village reachable only on foot, sitting under the sacred face of Kawagarbo (Meili Snow Mountain). Day 2 splits two ways: pilgrimage to the Sacred Waterfall, or the harder push to Ice Lake at 3,900 m. Exit via Ninong Gorge.
