Private journeys for two
Honeymoons, anniversaries and long-promised trips — drafted around the two of you.
Boutique China's private tours for couples — honeymoons, anniversaries and long-promised trips — are drafted around two people's pace and interests: a private English-speaking guide and driver, hand-picked boutique stays, and a route built from scratch through Yunnan and southwest China. Couples we've hosted have travelled Dali and Weishan, Lijiang and Shangri-La, and the Jingmai tea mountain. A typical ten-day journey starts from about A$4,200 per person, twin share.
For two people, private travel is at its most flexible: no group to wait for, no schedule to keep. Your guide knows by the second day whether you'd rather linger over tea or push on to the next viewpoint, and the route bends accordingly.

We spent a few weeks on the site before committing — we're particular about where we stay and we'd been let down before by trips that looked great online. Boutique China was different. The Hylla Vintage Hotel was exactly what they said it would be. Waking up to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain through floor-to-ceiling glass — I'll be talking about that view for years.
We were initially hesitant about rural travel at our age, but the seamless logistics were a revelation. Their bespoke itineraries strike the perfect balance between cultural depth and absolute comfort. Spending the afternoon exploring the 128-year-old courtyards in Weishan and retiring to a stunning boutique hotel was a highlight of our year.
We've traveled extensively, but this was our first time truly 'slowing down' to find the soul of a place. After browsing their unique list of destinations, we chose the ancient tea forests of Jingmai Mountain. The experience was profound — drinking tea with local Blang families in their stilted homes felt like stepping back in time, yet we never lacked for modern luxury.
Why private works for two
-
Stays chosen for two
We pair each night with a boutique stay we know personally — from Songtsam's lodges in the Tibetan highlands to design-led retreats in the Jingmai tea forest — chosen for the room, the view and the quiet.
-
Your pace, not a schedule
Sleep in on the tea mountain, stay for sunset over the terraces, swap a museum for a long walk — with a private guide and driver, each day's plan is a conversation, not a timetable to keep up with.
-
Milestones, marked quietly
Tell us it's a honeymoon or an anniversary and we'll shape the trip around it — the order of places, the stays and the moments you'll want to remember together.
-
Culture up close
A guide who lives in the region opens doors you wouldn't find alone — a Bai courtyard in Dali, a tea tasting with a Jingmai village host, the Friday market in Shaxi.
Starting points for two
Every route is built from scratch — these are starting points to react to, not fixed packages.
-

Soulful Side of Yunnan
Ten days down Yunnan's western edge — Bai courtyards and tie-dye at Dali, the Tea Horse Road market town of Shaxi, Tengchong's volcanoes and hot springs, then the Dai temples and tropical heat of Mangshi. Three regions most Yunnan itineraries skip one of, taken slowly.

Experiences to build in
-

Pu'er Tea Experience
Three to five days deep in Yunnan's tea mountains — Nannuo's ancient tea forests, Jingmai's UNESCO-inscribed Blang and Dai heritage villages, hands-on Pu'er cake-making at the tea estate, and the Blang fire-pit roasted-tea ritual in Mangjing village — with an optional extension to Bingdao (冰岛), Lincang's most coveted ancient-tree village.
-

Yunnan Living Heritage
Eight heritage towns and villages across Yunnan where the place itself is the experience — Lisu choirs in Tongle, the Friday market at Shaxi, the UNESCO Blang tea forest at Jingmai, caravan-merchant courtyards at Heshun, Bai-Yi market days at Weishan, the Tea Horse cliff trail at Wuli, the Mosuo matrilineal world around Lugu Lake, and Naxi Dongba culture in Lijiang's Baisha.
-

Cangshan Cloud Path Hike
A day on the Jade Belt Cloud Path (玉带云游路) — Cang Mountain's near-level paved walkway at the 2,600 m contour, with Erhai Lake spread a kilometre below for the whole 11.5 km. The easiest entry-point into Yunnan's Ultimate Hikes — alpine view without alpine effort.
How your trip comes together

Before you plan
01 Do you plan honeymoons in China?
Yes. Tell us it's a honeymoon and we'll shape the route, pacing and stays around it — quieter boutique stays, slower mornings and the places you'll want to remember together. Yunnan suits it well: Dali and Erhai Lake, Lijiang's old town, the mountains around Shangri-La and the Jingmai tea forest have all featured in trips we've planned for couples.
02 Is a private tour good value for just two?
Two is where private travel starts. Prices are quoted per person on a twin-share basis — a typical ten-day Yunnan journey starts from about A$4,200 per person — and include your private guide, private vehicle and driver, boutique stays, daily breakfast and most lunches, entrance fees and in-country support. International flights are extra.
03 Can we build in time to simply rest?
Yes. Several of our routes already include rest days — Soulful Side of Yunnan, for one — and on a private trip you can add more wherever you'd like them.
04 How long should a couples' trip be?
Our private journeys run 7 to 25 days, and ten to fourteen leaves room to linger without rushing. The five-day Jingmai Tea Tasting Tour and our Guilin route work best joined to a longer Yunnan journey.
