Build a trip around this stay

He Ting · Awamei (和庭·阿蛙美) is an eight-room stay beside Lijiang's Old Town in Yunnan, opened in 2023 in the former private residence of the Awamei, an old Naxi family. The designer Jing Sa rebuilt it around pavilions, water courtyards and a garden; inside are rosewood furniture, calligraphy and paintings, a tea room, a library and a dining room serving Naxi food. It suits travellers who want the Old Town on the doorstep but a quiet, private house to come back to.

An eight-room house beside Lijiang's Old Town (和庭·阿蛙美) — the former private residence of the Awamei, an old Naxi family, rebuilt by the designer Jing Sa around pavilions, water courtyards and a garden. Inside it reads more like a private collection than a hotel: rosewood furniture, calligraphy and paintings throughout, a tea room, a library and a lounge under a pitched timber roof, with Naxi cooking in the dining room.

Highlights

  • The former private residence of the Awamei, an old Naxi family, reopened in 2023 with just eight rooms
  • Rebuilt by the designer Jing Sa around pavilions, water courtyards and a garden, with trees around the outside
  • Filled like a private collection — rosewood furniture, calligraphy, paintings and art from the owners' own holdings
  • A tea room, a library, a lounge under a pitched timber roof and a small home cinema
  • A dining room serving traditional Naxi food alongside Chinese and Western menus
  • Beside the Old Town, so the lanes are close but the house itself stays quiet at night
Common questions

Staying at He Ting · Awamei

01 Where is He Ting · Awamei?

In central Lijiang, beside the Old Town (Dayan) in northwest Yunnan. It is close enough to walk into the Old Town for an early-morning wander, and far enough out that the house is quiet once the lanes fill up. Lijiang airport and the railway station are both within easy reach by car.

02 What makes it different from an Old Town guesthouse?

Scale and setting. It is a single family house rather than a lane-side inn — eight rooms, pavilions and water courtyards, a garden, and a lift between floors — and it is furnished like a private collection, with rosewood pieces, calligraphy and paintings throughout. You get the Old Town nearby without sleeping in the middle of its evening noise.

03 Who is this stay best for?

Travellers who want a comfortable, quiet base in Lijiang itself with some character to it — couples and small groups who like a tea room, a library and a garden to come back to after a day out at Baisha, Shuhe or Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
