02 How high is Shangri-La — will altitude be an issue?
Shangri-La sits high on the Tibetan plateau, and the thinner air is noticeably felt after arriving from lower elevations. Most guests are fine but wise to take the first day gently — walk slowly, rest, drink plenty of water. If you're coming up from Lijiang or Dali, easing the ascent helps you settle in comfortably.
