Poodom Meili

A hand-picked boutique retreat

As one of the newest "wild luxury" additions to the Meili region, Bodu Meili is a striking contemporary landmark in Wunongding Village. Known for its minimalist "white box" architecture and dramatic spiral staircases, the hotel balances high-concept modern design with the raw, spiritual atmosphere of the Tibetan highlands.

Highlights

  • Pinnacle Viewing Position Located at the highest point of Wunongding Village, every space above the first floor is oriented toward the Meili Snow Mountains, allowing guests to watch the "Golden Sunrise" directly from their beds through massive floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Avant-Garde Architecture The hotel’s design is a play of light and shadow, featuring a monochromatic palette and a signature "white box" aesthetic that stands in bold contrast to the rugged mountain terrain.
  • Ultra-Luxury Amenities designer appliances, premium bedding and considered finishes throughout every suite.
  • Designer Bath Collection Hermès or Bulgari bath products in every suite.
  • Wabi-Sabi Tibetan Interiors The decor merges minimalist "wabi-sabi" principles with authentic Tibetan textures—think hand-felted fabrics, warm fireplaces, and black pottery—creating a space that is both sophisticated and deeply cozy.
  • The 360° Panoramic Terrace The hotel features a premier rooftop terrace that offers an unobstructed, 360-degree view of the 13 peaks, making it one of the most exclusive photography spots in the region.
Common questions

Staying at Poodom Meili

01 How does Poodom compare to Songtsam Meili and Jixiashan?

All three sit in Wunongding Village at 3,600m facing Meili. Songtsam Meili (2011) is the pioneer — traditional Tibetan vernacular, Songtsam-standard warmth. Jixiashan (2023) is minimalist-Japanese, contemplative. Poodom (2024) is the most architecturally bold — sharp white-box volumes, spiral staircases, the most graphic of the three. Many guests book 2 nights at each over a week to experience the full Meili accommodation spectrum.

02 How serious is the altitude at Poodom?

The lodge is at 3,600m — same as its neighbours. Most guests feel mild altitude effects on arrival night. We route guests via Shangri-La town (3,200m, 3.5-hour drive in) or overnight in Kunming-Lijiang-Shangri-La as a stepped ascent. The hotel provides oxygen pillows and reception maintains emergency canisters. Day one is kept light; most guests are hiking by day two.

03 When is the best time to see Meili from Poodom?

October to early December for the clearest dawn views of Kawagarbo (6,740m) — Meili's never-summited sacred peak. March to May for fresh snow on the upper slopes with rhododendron below. Avoid the wet season (June–August) when the peaks are usually shrouded in cloud and the road in becomes landslide-prone. The lodge stays open year-round but views are the whole point of being there.
