Rissay Valley, Ritz-Carlton Reserve

A hand-picked boutique retreat

Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, is the first Reserve-tier property in China. Located in the hidden Zhongcha Valley of Jiuzhaigou, this all-villa sanctuary was designed by the late architectural legend Jaya Ibrahim to serve as a contemporary homage to traditional Tibetan village life.

Common questions

Staying at Rissay Valley, Ritz-Carlton Reserve

01 What makes Rissai Valley special beyond the brand name?

Three things. The architect: Jaya Ibrahim (Aman Bali, Cheval Blanc Randheli), in one of his last completed projects, turned Tibetan village vernacular into a sanctuary of courtyards and fire-pits. The setting: Zhongcha Valley, a quiet side valley 20 minutes from Jiuzhaigou but with its own stream, forest, and Tibetan-village neighbours. And the tier: it's one of only a handful of Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties globally.

02 How does Rissai Valley work with a Jiuzhai Valley visit?

Perfectly — Jiuzhaigou's UNESCO park is 20 minutes from the resort gate, so guests do full days inside the park and return to Zhongcha Valley for evening stillness. The resort pre-books your park permits and shuttle slots. Most guests stay 3–4 nights: two inside Jiuzhaigou's Y-shaped main and Rize valleys, one at Huanglong (an hour away), and one for pure Reserve-property downtime.

03 When is the best time to stay at Rissai Valley?

Mid-September to early November for the iconic Jiuzhai autumn colour — maples in red, gold, and copper around the turquoise lakes. Late April to early June for spring snowmelt and rhododendron. Avoid Chinese Golden Week (first week of October) when park entry caps sell out. Winter (December–February) is quiet and snow-dusted; some lake boardwalks close but the park is still stunning.
